Cross-country skiing

The wintery landscapes and the well-rounded ski routes of the Koli national park are enjoyed by both beginners and professionals alike. Our cross-country tracks offer possibilities for both classic and skating styles.

EXPLORE THE KOLI NATIONAL PARK ON SKIS

The track named "Käränkälammen kierros" is maintained regularly throughout the whole winter season. Other parts of the illuminated track are under maintenance during high season (weeks no. 52 and 1, national winter holidays weeks 8 to 10 and during Easter time April 6th until 10th depending on the snow situation). During other times maintenance is active on weekends.
The need for maintenance is based on the current track condition; if the track is in serviceable shape after inspected service is not needed.

VARIATIONS IN DIFFICULTY

The longest illuminated ski track in the country, spanning over 25 kilometres in lenght, starts from Koli Freetime in Kopravaara, continues through the Koli village all the way to Loma-Koli region. The difficulty of the track varies from easy to intermediate. If you're looking to go skiing with children the leg between Rantatie and Sutka is the best place to start. Parking spots are available next to Rantatie.

Other options for beginners include the ice track from Koli harbour to the base station of the ski hill in which you are able to take a break in restaurant Rinnetupa or eat your packed lunch using the fireplaces provided outside.

If you're looking for a challenge your best choices will be Räsävaara and Mäkrä. The tracks are very demanding but on the other hand they are also the most beautiful you'll find.

Other winter activities

Snowshoeing

Exploring Koli national park using snowshoes can be a breath of fresh air and a new way to experience nature. The nature paths used during summer can be utilised with snowshoes during the winter time as well. Snow cover protects the otherwise delicate terrain so you are free to roam even outside the marked routes. Places worth mentioning include Mäkrävaara, Vesivaara, Lakkala and the beginner-friendly Huippujen lumikenkäilyreitti that's located on the Koli summit. For more information regarding the snowshoe paths visit What's new

Winter hiking paths

Kylän polku takes you from Koli village to Visitor Centre Ukko located on the top station next to Break Sokos Hotel Koli. If you wish you may continue onwards to the top of the hills. During the winter months the 3.3 kilometre part between Koli village and Visitor Centre Ukko is kept open with a snowmobile on weekdays
